Toothpaste Is Not A Cure For Burns

Put toothpaste on burns ringanuntuk first aid is an act wrong and it will worsen the condition of the wound, it said plastic surgeon from RSCM-FKUI dr. Aditya Wardhana, Sp.BP.

Besides toothpaste, giving the butter and ice cubes on minor burns is also not right, he said.

"This is because the chemicals contained in these products can not be accepted by the injured skin," Aditya said during a press conference at the auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Saturday.

He explained that the provision of ice makes the blood vessels wrinkled due to changes in extreme temperatures that worsen the condition of the wound.

For first aid, Aditya recommends that burns quickly cooled by water flow temperature of about 15 degrees on the burn for 20 minutes.

"This serves to reduce pain and edema," said Aditya.
